Moving can be stressful, so you want to make sure that everything to goes as smoothly as possible.
Some people say that moving is one of the top stressful situations that you will encounter in everyday life – only eclipsed by death, illness or divorce. So it’s important to try and make everything easy.
So, as a follow-up to a previous post of ours on the subject, here are a few additional suggestions to make moving seem a little bit easier:
Be Organised. One of the best things that you can do is to sort out the tasks that you have to accomplish over the weeks before you move. Putting the tasks into bite-sized chunks will make the whole thing seem far more manageable rather than one mammoth task.
De-clutter. If you get rid of the items you don’t want or put unessential things into storage before you move, you will find the rest of the move far easier. Once moved in, you can get things out of your storage unit at your own leisure and pace.
Back-up plan. Try and have a ‘Plan B’. Things are notorious for going wrong in these types of situations. Keep phone numbers of movers in the area handy in case of cancellations. It probably won’t happen but it’s best to have measures in place to avoid panic – it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Get enough sleep. The night before you move, make sure that you have everything organised. If you do, you’re much more likely to have a good night’s sleep before the big day.
Keep to your routine. Making sure that you keep something regular and constant during your move is extremely important. Keeping a bit of normalcy can make it easier to cope with moving. Eating enough and drinking enough is vital, but also you want to keep doing this at normal times. Throwing your daily routines off can lead to lack of sleep causing stress and meltdowns.
